Diffuser Jewellery Use & Care Guide

Diffuser Jewellery Use & Care Guide

Welcome to your guide for getting the most from your Rooted Flame aromatherapy jewellery. Whether you wear a felt-pad locket or a lava-stone piece, a little know-how helps you enjoy your oils safely and keep your jewellery looking its best.

How Your Diffuser Jewellery Works

Felt-Pad Lockets

Each locket contains a small absorbent felt pad. The pad soaks up essential oil and releases fragrance gradually as you move and warm the piece during wear. Pads are replaceable, so you can switch scents without any residue crossing over.

Lava-Stone Pieces

Lava stone is a naturally porous volcanic rock that absorbs and slowly diffuses essential oils. The micro-pores in the stone hold the oil, releasing it gently through the day. Scent typically lingers for 12–24 hours depending on the oil and your environment.

Adding Your Essential Oil

  • Start with a minimal amount — one or two drops is usually enough. You can always add more; too much is harder to undo.
  • Follow the product or oil maker's directions. Every oil is different; check the label or supplier guidance before use.
  • Let the oil absorb fully before putting the piece on. For lava stone, wait 5–10 minutes; for felt pads, close the locket and wait a few minutes.
  • Avoid oversaturation. Overloaded pads or stones can transfer oil to skin or clothing. If the piece looks or feels wet, wait longer before wearing.
  • Keep oil away from direct skin and fabric contact. Wear pieces so the pad or stone faces away from skin where possible, and remove jewellery before getting dressed to avoid oil contact with clothing.

Changing Scents

  • Felt pads: Remove the used pad and replace it with a fresh one from your set before adding a new oil. This prevents scents from blending unexpectedly.
  • Lava stone: Allow the stone to air out fully between oils — leave it in a well-ventilated spot until the previous scent has faded, or gently rinse with warm water and allow to dry completely.

Storage & Cleaning

  • Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can degrade both the oil and the piece over time.
  • Keep pieces in a pouch or box when not in use to protect metal components from tarnishing.
  • Clean metal parts gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, or submerging lockets in water.
  • Replace felt pads regularly to keep scent fresh and the locket hygienic.

Important Safety Guidance

Essential oils are potent natural substances. Please read the following before use and consult a qualified professional if you have any concerns.

Children

Many essential oils are not appropriate for use around young children. Keep diffuser jewellery and all essential oils out of reach of children, and seek guidance from a paediatric healthcare professional before using any oil around a child.

Pets

Cats, dogs, and other pets can be highly sensitive to essential oils, including airborne diffusion. Avoid wearing diffuser jewellery near pets, and keep oils stored securely away from animals. Consult your vet if you have concerns.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Some essential oils are contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Always consult your midwife, GP, or a qualified aromatherapist before using any essential oil during these periods.

Respiratory or Breathing Conditions

If you or those around you have asthma, hay fever, or other respiratory sensitivities, introduce oils cautiously and in well-ventilated spaces. Discontinue use if any irritation occurs and seek medical advice if needed.

Skin Sensitivity

Even when worn as jewellery, oils that contact skin may cause irritation or sensitisation in some people. If redness, itching, or discomfort occurs, remove the jewellery, wash the area with mild soap and water, and seek medical advice if the reaction persists.

Citrus & Photosensitive Oils

Citrus-derived oils (such as bergamot, lemon, and lime) can cause photosensitivity — an increased reaction to sunlight on the skin. Take extra care to avoid oil contact with exposed skin if you plan to be in direct sunlight.
